Recently, people are saying on the Internet: "The Olympics is a group of people who need exercise the most, watching the group of people who need to rest the most ." And these people who need exercise most often sit on chairs and consume high-calorie food while watching TV. A sitting lifestyle and excessive calorie intake are the main reasons for obesity. According to the recommendations of WHO, BMI(BMI=weight/height 2) is used to evaluate overweight. With the index from the Taiwanese Ministry of Health and Welfare:

Status : 18.5≦BMI<24
Overweight 24≦BMI<27
Obesity BMI≥27

We can see that the population of overweight and obesity in Taiwan is about 30% from the data of the Health Promotion Administration in 2017. It has already caused a certain degree of impact on the health of people.

Being overweight is related to many diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, degenerative arthritis, cancer, gastroesophageal reflux, etc. Reproductive-related problems include menstrual disorders, polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS), infertility, hypogonadism, erectile dysfunction, and penile embedment. The excessive accumulation of fat causes insulin resistance, inflammation, and the formation of blood clots, which will eventually increase the risk of death.

Impacts on reproductive system

Surplus fat can cause high levels of male hormones in women. Not only leads to acne and beard,  irregular ovulation and thus reduces the chance of pregnancy. In men, being overweight can reduce the sperm count and motility of sperm, erections and even penis embedding, which leads to difficulties in sexual intercourse.

In addition, being overweight can also increase the chance of complications during pregnancy, such as fetal death in the womb, premature birth, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, etc. Overweight mothers are prone to delays in the delivery process, and also increase the probability of postpartum haemorrhage. The newborns are prone to the risks of fetal oversize, congenital defects, and neonatal hypoglycemia. Therefore, whether it is for the health of oneself or the offspring, we should always maintain a normal BMI.

How to lose weight?

You always know what to do. It's cliche, just eat less and do more exercise. It's easy to say but hard to execute. Diet can be divided into 4 types: low-fat, low-carb, low-calorie and extreme low-calorie diet.

A low-fat and low-carb diet is to reduce the fat and carb from your everyday meal while maintaining the amount of your every meal. A low diet refers to the daily intake of 800-1500 kcal calories. Those three diets can help you lose about 2-4kg. Note that low-carb diets are not suited for people with poor kidney function.  The extreme low-calorie diet only consumes 400-800kcal daily. It can lose 1.5-2.5kg per week. But it increases the risk of gout, electrolyte imbalance, etc. So it is best to carry it out under the guidance of a doctor. The definition of more exercise: at least three times weekly, at least 30mins each.

Hence, in order to maintain good fertility function and good health, it is very important to control your diet and exercise regularly. actions speak louder than words. You can create happiness for yourself and for your  next generation!
