Egg freezing 5 years ago, Having baby on 40

The biggest realization in the process of my journey is that I am very grateful for the decision I made five years ago to freeze my eggs, which gave me an additional opportunity to choose. It saved me from a lot of hardships on the road to parenthood.

In 2019, I completed the egg freezing process at the Stork fertility center. After getting married in 2022, we successfully underwent IVF treatment the following year. Now, I am 13 weeks pregnant, and I am extremely grateful for the assistance provided by the fertility center, especially the counselor who was always available online to help.

>Five years ago I froze my eggs. Five years later, I fulfilled my dream through IVF.

In 2019, at the age of 35, I chose the Stork Fertility Center in multiple regions to freeze my eggs. One reason was the convenience of transportation and the short time required for the stimulation cycle. I only needed to stay in Taiwan for 4-5 days to complete the procedure. Compared to distant locations like the United States, it saved time, energy, and commuting, allowing for better rest. Moreover, Taiwan indeed has excellent technology. Through one stimulation cycle, I obtained 29 mature eggs that could be frozen. In a similar situation in the United States, I might have needed to fly there twice, staying for 15-20 days each time.

After getting married in 2022, I underwent another egg retrieval procedure in Italy in preparation for another round of IVF treatment. However, the results were not as expected. The local doctor attributed it to my advanced age of 40 at that time. Despite retrieving a decent number of eggs (12 in total), the quality wasn’t satisfactory. Therefore, they recommended using the eggs previously frozen in Taiwan instead of undergoing another stressful retrieval process. I felt that the IVF experience in Italy and at the Stork Fertility Center was vastly different. Every minute at the Stork Fertility Center was meticulously planned, and the treatment progress was much more efficient.

Soon after the end of the Covid-19, I proactively contacted the Stork Fertility Center to prepare for a medical visa and proceed with the next steps of treatment in Taiwan. With the help of the doctors and counselor, the first embryo transfer went smoothly and was successful.

>Stork warm service and thorough preparation are solely aimed at ensuring success.

From freezing eggs, thawing and fertilizing them, to implanting embryos, there are several aspects that I particularly resonate with and would like to share with everyone:

In-app Reports.

During the embryo cultivation process, we could see the changes every two days through the embryo information updates and photos on the Stork app. This entire process made us feel very engaged, rather than just waiting for a result on the last day.

Complete check-up with detailed explanations.

The pre-implantation checks were extremely thorough, examining various factors that could potentially hinder embryo implantation. I'm very grateful for the counselor's meticulous and patient explanations of each item's arrangement. Traveling from overseas to Taiwan for the implantation procedure isn't easy, and they all hope to achieve success in as few attempts as possible. They make thorough preparations to help us minimize the costs and time spent on traveling back and forth, thereby increasing the chances of success.

Real-time tracking of the situation.

The tracking after embryo implantation was also very cautious, ranging from tracking every 2-3 days to once a week. During this period, the counselor continuously monitored each tracking session. One memorable incident was when I experienced bleeding after implantation. I sent an email to my counselor, and within minutes, she called me, advising me on how to handle the situation and use the needles and hemostatic drugs I had on hand. She also continued to check on me throughout the evening. I remember my mother saying, 'Initially, we thought we should rush to the hospital, but it turned out that the hospitals in Taiwan had everything prepared for you. Following the counselor's instructions, the bleeding stopped immediately.

>Thanks to freezing my eggs in the past.

The greatest realization I've had throughout this journey is how grateful I am for the decision I made to freeze my eggs five years ago. It gave me an extra opportunity to choose, and I've encountered much less hardship on the path to parenthood. I highly recommend young women to plan ahead if they have future plans for childbirth or are still uncertain.

I'm also deeply thankful for the attentive service provided by the Stork Fertility Center. Not only can they be trusted in terms of assisted reproductive technology, but their service is also thoughtful. Throughout the pregnancy process, they are very considerate of the psychological state of mothers. It's the best reproductive center I've encountered so far, and I believe I made the right decision back then

  1. In 2019, when the trend of egg freezing had not yet become widespread, Ms. Z had already realized that preserving her eggs for the future was a significant decision in her life. Despite the inevitable challenges during the treatment process, her courage in taking this step planted the seeds of hope for future fertility planning. Looking back, it was a decision worth making. Facing the inconveniences of overseas clients during treatment, we also provided a dedicated counselor to assist with the most immediate support throughout the process, ensuring that clients could complete their treatment with peace of mind in the shortest possible time.
Regardless of one's identity, when facing medical procedures, everyone is vulnerable. Many obstacles cannot be overcome solely through personal efforts, exercise, or diet to improve the success rate of assisted reproduction. Only by establishing good communication and trust with doctors can the treatment proceed more smoothly. Whether it's discomfort during treatment, unexpected examination results, or hesitation in choosing treatment options, we hope that patients can open up to doctors and healthcare professionals, allowing expertise to alleviate their conflicts and concerns.
  2. Life's journey is full of uncertainties, and precisely because we cannot predict what the future, Ms. Z made a far-sighted decision in 2019. At that time, she was young and her AMH number exceeded 10, so she decisively froze 29 mature eggs in one stimulation cycle, giving herself a great assurance. Four years later, she met her current husband, got married, and returned to Stork to thaw her eggs for fertilization. The subsequent embryo cultivation results were also quite good. If her past self hadn't made the determined decision to preserve her fertility, perhaps her path in life would have been completely different.
  3. Because Ms. Z froze 29 mature eggs at the age of 35, she obtained 12 high-quality blastocysts after thawing and fertilization. Two blastocysts were subjected to PGS/PGT-A testing, both of which were found to have normal chromosomes. Due to her lack of adverse pregnancy history, the first embryo transfer, which involved a normal chromosomal embryo and was not subjected to ERA testing, was performed. Before the transfer, her thrombosis levels were relatively high. Based on professional judgment, the doctor timely adjusted the dosage of anticoagulant injections. Additionally, early monitoring and close follow-up after implantation were conducted. Currently, Ms. Z is at 22 weeks of pregnancy, and we eagerly anticipate hearing the good news of her successful delivery in the future.
