Are you ready when the fortune comes?
Sometimes something will be more difficult to do 10 years later. To have one boy and one girl at the age of 45 years old, I really have to thank Stork Fertility Center. I was holding my son in my arms while I had a video call with my daughter at the postpartum care center. Seeing the cute wrapped newborn baby makes me feel like I'm lucky to have both a career and kids. But this luck is prepared in advance.
36th birthday gift - freezing eggs
20 years ago, I started my work in a science industrial park. It was very stressful and tiring. I often worked until midnight and still wondered if I had the talent at that time. When I was physically and mentally ready to get married, I was already over 30 years old.
Stork Fertility Center just imported the newest freezing eggs technology on my 36th birthday. My sister and I saw the advertisement for the new technology. My sister said, freeze eggs! Long-term stimulated injection hadn't been published yet at that time. I need to do the injection every day by myself. My AMH level was just at the borderline, only 6 eggs were frozen after the egg retrieval process. The doctor suggested doing it again. I refused without hesitation. This is such an uncomfortable thing, I should be crazy to do this again.
Do Egg retrieval twice will be better than once
I met my Mr.Right at 37 years old and got married at 38(My husband was 45 years old at that time). After a year of trying, I still haven't been able to get pregnant. We went to the hospital to see the doctor. The doctor told us honestly, “ At your age, you don’t need any further examination, you should do IVF(In Vitro Fertilization), it is really difficult to get pregnant by yourself.”
I came up with my 6 eggs frozen at Stork Fertility Center. The doctor suggested, if you want to have two kids, it's better to retrieve eggs again. In hindsight, this was the right advice and after two more retrievals, only 11 more eggs were retrieved.
Age is the important factor in eggs quality and fertilization rate
At the age of 40, I had my eggs thawed from three egg retrieval cycles and the fertilization rate showed that the quality of the eggs had decreased by twice in just 3 to 4 years! I got 9 fertilized eggs that turned into eight embryos at the end. Because PGS was not so popular at that time, there were eight blastocysts in total, and after discussing with the doctor, we decided to transfer two blastocysts at a time and could transfer four times.
The result was a total of four implantations and three conceptions. The first transfer of two embryos with the best appearance grade, one 36 years old and one 39 years old. The result was pregnancy but miscarriage after 8 weeks, and the result was chromosomal abnormality after the test. The second transfer was two embryos both 36 years old. This time I gave birth to a baby girl, successfully. By the way, I was 41 years old at that time.
Before the third implantation, I asked the doctor if I could do the PGS. The doctor advised me that the trophectoderm of the remaining 4 blastocysts were small and there might be problems with the PGS biopsy, so I still transferred 2 blastocysts this time. But I did not conceive this time, so I had an ERA to find out the reason and the result was normal. Immune blood test turned out that I had a high risk of “blood clot” which may be the reason for my failure. I postponed the fourth embryo transfer until I solved my tooth problem and the high risk of “blood clot” returned to normal. Finally, I got pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy on the fourth transfer. I am totally sure that my first baby girl came from my 36-year-old eggs. However, I will never know whether my second child (baby boy) came from 36 or 39 years old eggs. I think I couldn’t get any eggs after my first child was born. Because I was 43 years old then!
No matter in the hospital or the postpartum care center, people were really surprised by my high age. You can’t do anything when you feel regret, but you can freeze eggs just like the time capsules. I am so grateful that the Stork Fertility Center provides freezing egg service. Due to freezing eggs, I can have my two sweet burdens when I am 45 years old.
*Medication needs to be discussed with doctors, this article gives suggestions only.
I asked a client what she wanted to say to herself when she was freezing her eggs. She said,” I must give myself a loud clap and say well done! and then tell her to do it three years earlier!” Just like the story in this article, she thanked herself for her decision to freeze her eggs. It would be even better if she could freeze more eggs or freeze them earlier so that she can have the sweet load of a child at the age of 45.
